there's a train?

[ make that a no, elena, she's not on the train. she is, in fact, back in deerington. she's not sure which is better. ]

i went through one of the doors in the lighthouse and i wound up in the slush outside a pizza place on main street.
are you sure you can't come back? i could really use some patented gilbert family hot chocolate today.

[ or every day for the rest of her life because she did Bad Things and she's going to drown in a sea of guilt any day now. ]

[rehashing]

( Elena doesn't blame her for anything, but Elena doesn't know where this train is going. )

Really, my hot chocolate? You don't miss my chili?
Maybe the train is taking us back to Deerington. No one here knows.

( Maybe the train could stop and keep going. Or, she could find a conductor. )

What I'm going to focus on is you're safe and not sinking with the Titanic. And, you're you again. And I'm me. Still in this giant dress.
Is Stefan with you?

[gasping]

i don't think you even miss your chili.

[ what she really misses is elena's hugs. so tight, they risk breaking a rib, even when it shouldn't be possible. ]

i haven't seen him.
i think he's avoiding me. or maybe i'm avoiding him. i don't know.

[rehashing]

( Her hugs will be there waiting. )

Or, you could both not avoid each other. Maybe talk.

[gasping]

we aren't very good at talking right now.

[rehashing]

Well. Until then, you can talk to me. Is it cold there right now? Or, is it rainy? You mentioned slush.

[gasping]

i think it stopped snowing while we were on the ship.
which is so weird to think about.

[rehashing]

No weirder than dreaming all of this in the first place.
You know, we were all on the Titanic. I thought Stefan had turned me. He had his humanity turned off. Stefan always comes back, Caroline.

[gasping]

i know he did. i turned mine off too.

[ for him, though she doesn't say that. because of him might be fairer. even without her memories, living as someone else in a world they never needed to inhabit, she'd been drawn to him in the worst way. ]

[rehashing]

Of course. You were also still a vampire. Well. We hid it well. Caroline, that wasn't you. Or me. Or Stefan.
And that means Damon was the only one with his real memories. Welcome to Deerington. Don't mind if we send you on a cruise for your second month. But, mind your memories.
I think the train is stopping.

[gasping]

stopping where?

[ it'd be too much to ask for elena to get an express train back to deerington, wouldn't it? ]

is anyone with you?

[rehashing]

Just everybody who came down the tunnel with me.

I don't know where. A station. Let me check.

[gasping]

there are signs in adjacent-to-creepy-town?

[ that might be too much to ask for, huh ]

[rehashing]

( No, it's not, actually, because she sees a sign as the doors open and she steps outside into some sort of welcome area. )

I think Caroline I think we're underwater.

In a city, or some kind of, if a space station were under water.

[gasping]

that sounds like one of those horrible scifi movies matt used to make us watch.
are you sure you're not hallucinating?

[rehashing]

Are we sure of anything in this dream?

No, I don't think I'm hallucinating because I recognize others from in town and from on the Titanic. I think this is our intended destination. I think this is where we're all... going to be.

[gasping]

not all of us.
which means there's got to be a way to get you out of there.

[rehashing]

I'd like to think there's a way out, at least we're not all living on a floating death ship.

But, the train isn't moving again. It's probably a one way trip, at least for the month. But, if we could get anybody back into the lighthouse the doors would still be there.

[gasping]

i'm more worried that maybe you actually drowned.

[ rapture could just be a shared hallucination. she'd say that's crazy... but this whole place is crazy. ]

we'll work on it. we'll figure something out.

[rehashing]

I hate to state the obvious, but, I'd remember if I'd drowned having done it once all ready. And, if I had really drowned, I'd be sick and feverish. When we die here, we contract this karmic flu. Sorry you died, feel worse for it.

[gasping]

how does that even make sense? if we die, we just come back. it might take a while, but dying doesn't give you a cold.

[rehashing]

I've heard here it does. A twelve year old who serves coffee told me. Apparently, there aren't child labor laws in Deerington.

[gasping]

i don't even know what to do with that.

[ it's not that important, though, is it? not in the grand scheme of things. ]

look, elena. i need you to come back, okay. i can't have a best friend pow wow in this fake bedroom without my best friend here, and i really> need a best friend pow wow soon. like, asap soon.

[rehashing]

If we can get out of here, we will. We'll find a way, Caroline. In the meantime, we do what we always do. We make the best of it. Or, we try anyway. I'm only a call away on this thing.
