( he hasn't actually been to katherine's shop yet so...maybe he could. he shrugs. )

Yeah, I can talk to her. I don't think she hates me after everything.

Do you expect us to hate you, Stefan? Because, I couldn't.

Yeah, I know.

( she won't hate him and neither does katherine. but it's still something he thinks should happen. )

But, I've talked to you both and I know you don't hate me. So, I'll talk to Katherine. This'll give me an excuse to see her shop anyway.

[rehashing]

From what I could see through the Fluid, it's nice. Her cat's there, too.

( Her cat really likes her. )

I think we could make this place something. Give people a port in the storm. Maybe - enlist someone to spell it? Or, to try? We've never tried something like that. Maybe this way, people wouldn't be attempting to perform surgery on themselves or - die. But, magic isn't reliable here either, though, so. It could be a pipe dream.

It's something to look into. I know a few magical type people but I wouldn't want to make this place unsafe or anything what with how magic is.

( She doesn't even have to consider it. She'd love his help, even. )

( there's really no reason for him to say no, is there? she needs help and he likes the idea and he's got time to provide her help so. )

( She smiles to herself. )

You know, it's not just about you helping me, or - making Damon proud. I want this to be half yours. We're helping each other. It's going to be ours. Is that okay?

( give him a little time, elena, and he'll be better about this. everything's still pretty fresh. )

But I do want to help you. I can't sit inside my house all day and drink. I don't think you'd let me. But yeah, it's okay.

[rehashing]

I wouldn't.

( Reaching into her bag, she pulls out a jingling set of keys and sets them down in front of Stefan. )

The silver one opens the back door, gold - the front. ( They'll get more as they need them, she figures. )

( his eyes flick down to the keys and, after a moment, he reaches down and picks them up. )

I'll come back later and check the place out more thoroughly.

Okay. And I'll help with whatever, too. When I'm not taking classes or studying with Vasily. - He's like Jo, but Russian and serious. ( She makes a mock-serious face, bringing her voice an octive down. ) We've got this.

( he doesn't know if he's as confident as she is but he's trying and he's willing to keep trying. )
