Now's as good a time as any, don't you think? I really would like your input and your help. I think it could be a really good thing, Stefan. I meant it when I said I thought it might honor Damon and give you a much needed project.

Are you still at Katherine's?

no.

( he'd left katherine's as soon as he could. or really as soon as she'd let him leave. )

i'm home. i've been home for awhile now. i just haven't wanted to see anyone.

[rehashing]

Anyone, or folders with, what I think is a pretty genius bar idea?

[prescind]

i really didn't look at anything. i sat and drank for the most part. the folder's on my table.

i can look at it now.

[rehashing]

I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I think you should. Because of everything I said before, and because I'm excited. Because I need to be excited about something. And this is the first thing that's... excited me like this since coming here.

[prescind]

okay, hang on. let me go get them.

( there's a brief pause before he sends another message through. )

plans for a bar, right? you're wanting to open one up?

[rehashing]

Damon always talked about doing it, it would help him when I had long shifts at the hospital. That was always his dream and I thought, what better way of honoring that. And, I'm not going to guard the hospital forever. I know I've never had a job before, but they can't all be that boring. It's not possible.

I found that space last month. I stumbled in after being chased by towns people. It's two stories. It needs a little work, but you're good at that kind of thing.

( You're handy. )

I thought we could call it Damon's. I even thought of a drink name. The Snatch, Eat, Erase. I've given it too much though, but, I can't shake it. And, I think I want this. And I think you might want to want it, too.

it's a good idea. it's a really good idea and i'm sure damon would make a face, roll his eyes but secretly be grateful.

( he sighs, trying not to think too much about his brother lest he get upset. )

you sure you want my help?

[rehashing]

I came to you, Stefan. I'm still coming to you. Asking you for your help. I can't run a bar by myself. And take classes in being an EMT and raise a baby vampire.

I would love your help.

i've done a lot of things in my life but haven't ever done this. i can try and help though.

( if anything, he could fix the space up a little. he was decent at that. )

We can do it together. Isn't it better than fixing dream cars? Or, sitting at home not talking to anyone?

[prescind]

fixing cars isn't that bad.

and i talked to myself.

( but yes, it was probably better. )

I wasn't disparaging being a mechanic.

And, normally, I'd say you're an excellent conversationalist. With yourself?

( she's not so sure. )

right now?

( you mean go outside and be in public? that's asking a lot, elena. )

Or tonight.

you're very persistent, you know that, right?

( it's meant as a compliment. )

I'm choosing to take it as a compliment. We'll have an inaugural drink in our future business. Say, 7? Give you enough time to make it look like you haven't been sitting on the couch reading all day. I expect gelled hair. Unless, you get caught in the rain. Then I expect formerly gelled hair. Got it?

[prescind]

( okay, that actually makes him laugh. )

you seriously giving me hair care instructions?

[rehashing]

Someone's going to have to make your choices for you, just for a little while.

[prescind]

probably for the best.

( he sighs. )

i can meet you at some point to take a look.

If by some point, you mean around 7. I agree. That's a really great idea. See you then, best friend!

( she doesn't really give him the chance to refute her. or change their plans. some time is now later tonight. when stefan arrives, elena is all ready inside, unpacking the bottle she'd brought with her. a swanky bottle of bourbon. )

( like he had a choice, but it's nice to pretend... that he might not. even if she'd be disappointed and need to fight through his wall again. )

I think you would have come over and dragged me out by an ear if I hadn't.

( but he smiles at her as he makes his way in, taking a look around. )

How are you doing?

[rehashing]

If not the collar.

( she smiles, setting the bottle down and moving over to stefan. are you checking out the first floor? well, now you're doing that and you're hugging elena. )

How cheesy does it sound if I say, better now that you're here. ( she lets the hug linger a bit too long before pulling back, stepping away. ) Honestly? I'm good. I'm really good. Maybe, better than I've been since first waking up here.

[prescind]

( he's not exactly surprised to find elena in his arms. he knew she would try and hug him if he came out of his house and it's nice. it feels good. he returns the embrace before stepping back. )

Has something else happened or are you just having a string of good days?

( either one sounds like a good deal to him and he hopes that that's the case for her. )

After the rain, only good days.

( and that's a part of it. the rain had flushed everything out and had lightened things better than anything had in days.

she moves back to the bar, uncapping the bourbon. no glasses for this occasion. )
