( he catches her phone when she's in the shower, so not responding right away, that's about cleaning up after a run. vampires still have active sweat glands. but, as soon as she grabs her phone to put on some sort of music, she sees his name. she doesn't hesitate in getting back to him.she doesn't hate him. and she does owe him a response. because she's one of his closest friends besides katherine? )

You're right about me not owing you anything, because that's not how being friends works. We still are. Friends, Stefan. We need to talk about you turning it off. With Caroline, I know she made you, I know you had no choice, but you can't do that here. I know Damon is gone and that's not easy. He's your brother. But, you need to remember you're not alone in this. Promise me you're not going to forget that, and I'll think about forgiving you.

( she doesn't mean that last part at all. she hopes he can hear her tone of voice. he knows her better than anyone in town here, besides caroline. but the longer they're here in deer, the less she feels like she knows caroline. it feels like stefan is all she has back from home. but, that's in her plan for later in the week. reconnection. )

i didn't want to deal with it. i know that's not an excuse but i just didn't want to deal with it.

You're right. But, you're talking to the girl who thought excuses were reasons. I was there, too. I am there, every day here. But, I don't turn it off, Stefan, and you can't again. If we're going to make it here, in whatever capacity we can? We have to feel it all.

I'm glad you're okay and you're apology is accepted.

( She'd ask, point blank about the file, and her plans. Her grand plans. But, she hints first. )

i can only promise to try. i can't really predict what's going to happen in the future.

( or if someone would try and make him turn it off again somehow. )

she gave it to me. i just haven't really looked at it yet. i haven't been up to much of anything.

Now's as good a time as any, don't you think? I really would like your input and your help. I think it could be a really good thing, Stefan. I meant it when I said I thought it might honor Damon and give you a much needed project.

Are you still at Katherine's?

no.

( he'd left katherine's as soon as he could. or really as soon as she'd let him leave. )

i'm home. i've been home for awhile now. i just haven't wanted to see anyone.

Anyone, or folders with, what I think is a pretty genius bar idea?

i really didn't look at anything. i sat and drank for the most part. the folder's on my table.

i can look at it now.

[rehashing]

I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I think you should. Because of everything I said before, and because I'm excited. Because I need to be excited about something. And this is the first thing that's... excited me like this since coming here.

[prescind]

okay, hang on. let me go get them.

( there's a brief pause before he sends another message through. )

plans for a bar, right? you're wanting to open one up?

Damon always talked about doing it, it would help him when I had long shifts at the hospital. That was always his dream and I thought, what better way of honoring that. And, I'm not going to guard the hospital forever. I know I've never had a job before, but they can't all be that boring. It's not possible.

I found that space last month. I stumbled in after being chased by towns people. It's two stories. It needs a little work, but you're good at that kind of thing.

( You're handy. )

I thought we could call it Damon's. I even thought of a drink name. The Snatch, Eat, Erase. I've given it too much though, but, I can't shake it. And, I think I want this. And I think you might want to want it, too.

it's a good idea. it's a really good idea and i'm sure damon would make a face, roll his eyes but secretly be grateful.

( he sighs, trying not to think too much about his brother lest he get upset. )

you sure you want my help?

[rehashing]

I came to you, Stefan. I'm still coming to you. Asking you for your help. I can't run a bar by myself. And take classes in being an EMT and raise a baby vampire.

i've done a lot of things in my life but haven't ever done this. i can try and help though.

( if anything, he could fix the space up a little. he was decent at that. )

We can do it together. Isn't it better than fixing dream cars? Or, sitting at home not talking to anyone?

fixing cars isn't that bad.

and i talked to myself.

( but yes, it was probably better. )

I wasn't disparaging being a mechanic.

And, normally, I'd say you're an excellent conversationalist. With yourself?

( she's not so sure. )

( you mean go outside and be in public? that's asking a lot, elena. )

I'm choosing to take it as a compliment. We'll have an inaugural drink in our future business. Say, 7? Give you enough time to make it look like you haven't been sitting on the couch reading all day. I expect gelled hair. Unless, you get caught in the rain. Then I expect formerly gelled hair. Got it?

( okay, that actually makes him laugh. )

Someone's going to have to make your choices for you, just for a little while.

( she doesn't really give him the chance to refute her. or change their plans. some time is now later tonight. when stefan arrives, elena is all ready inside, unpacking the bottle she'd brought with her. a swanky bottle of bourbon. )
